The energy paradox: why you're exhausted after fun things (AuDHD)

You come home from a wonderful evening with friends. Interesting conversations, laughter, felt connection. Your ADHD side loved it.
But now, at home, you're completely exhausted. Your ASD side is overloaded. You need 24 hours of silence to recover.
How can something fun be so exhausting?
The double energy paradox

With ASD + ADHD, you're dealing with two different energy systems that work in opposite ways:
ASD energy is depleted by:
Social interaction (even enjoyable)
Sensory stimuli (sound, light, crowds)
Unpredictability
ADHD energy is depleted by:
Boredom and repetition
Too little stimulation
Dull, predictable tasks
The problem? What recharges one side often drains the other.
Why "fun" isn't always "energizing"
A networking event can be great for your ADHD side: new people, interesting conversations, stimulation! But for your ASD side, it's a marathon: too much noise, too many people, too many stimuli.
The net effect? Exhaustion.
The surprising discovery
Some activities give both sides energy. Others drain both. And some are mixed. The art is discovering which is which, for you. Because it's different for everyone.
Three questions that help
After an activity, ask yourself:
How does my ASD side feel? (overstimulated or calm?)
How does my ADHD side feel? (stimulated or bored?)
What's the net effect? (energy gain or loss?)
The energy choreography
When you know your patterns, you can anticipate:
Plan recovery after energy-draining activities (even fun ones)
Consciously choose activities that feed both sides
Avoid the combination of social overload + boring tasks in one day
But how?
In "Maya and the Double Dance," you'll learn:
How to track your unique energy patterns
Which activities give both sides energy
How to design your ideal day
When to stop (even when your ADHD side wants to continue)
It's not about doing less. It's about choosing more consciously.
Energy management isn't optional
It's the foundation of everything. No dance works on an empty body.
In the next blog, we'll explore "flexible structure: the secret between rigidity and chaos."
